Philadelphia: Magic Gardens and South St. Vegetarian

Lindsay and I spent a good part of yesterday on South Street checking out some of the restaurants and sites. The south end of the street with its cafes, pizzerias, bagel shops, and other restaurants is across from our apartment.

Some highlights:

Magic Gardens: I'd never heard of this small gallery and a few others I asked about it since going haven't either. It's definitely worth checking out for locals and tourists alike. It felt like stepping into someone's psyche à la Jennifer Lopez's The Cell (Apologies to the artist Isaiah Zagar for the reference). Staff was friendly and photography was allowed.  B1G1 admission is available online for signing up for their mailing list online.

The following picture is from a temporary exhibit of Pam Lethbridge's at the Secret Garden.

They have no arms to play with the toys!

Maoz Vegetarian: Since I lived here ten years ago, vegetarian restaurants have sprung up everywhere. This is a falafal bar. You choose items from the bar to add to a falafel filled pita. The hummus and vegetable salads on the bar were great but we both agreed we could use less of the falafel next time.

Whole Foods Market: We stopped here to pick up the Vegan items that aren't offered elsewhere. Being used to Earth Fare in TN I must say, the variety and options were impressive. We'll definitely be back.

South Street murals and art: It took me three tries to get this shot because tour buses for the Beneath the Veil show at the TLA kept blocking my view.

 More to come...
